Grants the Joaquim Nabuco Medal, Gold Class, to Former State Deputy Bruno Cavalcanti de Araújo.

LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF PERNAMBUCO

RESOLVES:

Article 1: The Joaquim Nabuco Medal, Gold Class, is hereby granted to Former State Deputy Bruno Cavalcanti de Araújo, in accordance with Resolution No. 1,892, dated January 18, 2023.

Article 2: This Resolution comes into effect on the date of its publication.

Justification:

Bruno Cavalcanti de Araújo was born in Recife on March 15, 1972. Married and father of two daughters, Maria Beatriz and Maria Clara, Bruno is a lawyer, graduated from the Faculty of Law of Recife. He has been active in Pernambuco’s political scene from a young age.
He served as a State Deputy for two terms (1999/2003 and 2003/2007) and was President of the Legislative Assembly of Pernambuco. In 2007, he assumed the first of his three terms in the Federal Chamber (2007/2011, 2011/2015, and 2015/2019), where he was the Leader of the PSDB and the Opposition to President Dilma Rousseff’s Government.
On April 17, 2016, he cast the 342nd vote that authorized the continuation of the impeachment process against President Dilma Rousseff, which then moved to the Federal Senate. On May 12, 2016, he took office as the Minister of Cities following Michel Temer’s appointment as interim President of the Republic. He was elected on May 31, 2019, as the national president of PSDB, leaving the position early (which was to end in February) on January 26, 2023.
The honoree is the author of relevant projects, such as the National Code of Science and Technology, among other significant works.
